Midstream urine sample for culture and sensitivity with microscopic examination

Before you start...

Please read the manual carefully and follow the instructions. Each step is essential for a correct midstream urine test report. Early morning urine samples are preferred. At least 4 hours of no urination if you wake up during the night. Use a sterile urine container with a screw cap supplied by the laboratory (yellow top) or similar from a pharmacy.

Step 1

Wash and dry your hands thoroughly.

Step 2

Remove the lid from the container and set it aside. Do not touch the inside of the lid or container.

Step 3

For women, spread your legs apart and spread the folds of skin apart when urinating. For men, retract the foreskin (if uncircumcised) when urinating. This does not apply to boys with a narrow or non-removable foreskin.

Step 4

Clean the genital area with water and dry with a fresh towel before urinating

Step 5

Pass a small amount of urine into the toilet.

Step 6

Halfway through urination, fill the container at least half full.

Step 7

Finish flushing in the toilet.

Step 8

Put the lid on and tighten it firmly.

Step 9

Wash and dry your hands thoroughly after collection.

Step 10

Label the container with the supplied printed sticker and ENTER the date and time of sample collection. (Or enter your name, date of birth, and sample collection date and time).

Step 11

Place the sample in the plastic referral bag. Remove the cover strip and fold the top to seal. Put the time and date on the referral form.

Step 12

The urine sample should be refrigerated IMMEDIATELY and delivered to the laboratory as soon as possible after collection is complete and the referral with the sample placed in the laboratory drop-in container.

Where to donate blood and urine

Before urinating, check if your data and date of collection are placed on the sticker and referral correctly, seal the bag tightly after removing the yellow stripe by bending the form.
